As parents, we are the models to our kids. When we leave a room, we turn out the light. When we brush our teeth, we turn off the water. We exercise to keep ourselves fit. We are good examples to them. We need to take the time to get the kids to the playgrounds and on nature walks. Don’t forget to play with them, and stop and observe nature.
Occasionally my grandkids want to go into our Serra Mesa canyon. Some big kids have built dirt bike ramps there, and Josh and Tyler like to run on them. They love being outside and sometimes, it’s “the dirtier the better.” Larry and I take them knowing they will be filthy when we return. But we go knowing that they will shower, and their clothes will be washed when we return home. And after the walk and fresh air, we all feel re-energized. Check our article about the importance of kids spending time outdoors on page 16.
We are always looking for ways to extend our money and time. If you want to have a few more dinners at home then you have in the past, make a double recipe. Give one dish to a friend and the friend can do the same for you. This can be helpful and fun for both of you.
As we begin the last year of this decade, we want to continue keeping ourselves healthy, wealthy and wise. Our editor, Kirsten Flournoy, has put together several articles to help make all these things happen. Check out our whole issue.
