Local research has global impact on the environment

Concerns about the environment are in the news on a daily basis. From ocean acidification across the planet, to brown clouds of pollution in the Far East, the news can be grim and overwhelming. However, positive action is taking place just around the corner.
Familiar local organizations—like the San Diego Zoo and the Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institute of Oceanography—are conducting research that touches all of these environmental concerns. Researchers are attempting to reverse negative environmental trends, both locally and worldwide, through restoration projects, conservation and activities for the general public. The research shows that our actions—where we travel, what we eat, how we live—all impact the environment.
